Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 13 Weirdly Had Almost No Story For Its Titular Couple

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage wasn't about Georgie and Mandy at all, making this one of the weirdest episodes yet. Our review!

This shouldn’t have to be said, but Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage should be about Georgie and Mandy.

The two interacted throughout the episode, yet Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 13 wasn’t about them.

Instead, everything got thrown out of whack when Audrey tried to add a woman’s touch to the tire shop, causing a conflict between her and Jim. Georgie and Mandy were mostly along for the ride while the elder McAllisters fought.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 13 Continues A Workplace Story Trend

In a way, it’s unsurprising that this episode was more about the tire shop than about Georgie and Mandy’s relationship.

The past several episodes have revolved around the tire shop.

Georgie’s frustration over Jim’s never listening to him and Jim’s desire to keep everything exactly the way it’s always been have taken center stage lately.

I have nothing against workplace comedies. I loved The Mary Tyler Moore Show’s workplace-based humor.

But Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage never used to be one, so what gives?

It Would Be Boring If It Was Always The Same Thing, But Still

I’m glad Georgie and Mandy didn’t have a fight after Mandy was offended by Georgie’s anti-feminist attitude.

Those arguments have gotten old fast, though if there’s any time that’s appropriate for being aggravated with your spouse, it’s when he makes jokes about women being less intelligent.

I don’t like those kinds of jokes. Fortunately, that nonsense morphed into a story about Audrey working at the tire shop.

The story was predictable, and again, it didn’t really involve Georgie and Mandy. For once, they were the adults in the room.

This Story Was About Georgie and Audrey, But It Was Indirectly About Georgie’s Relationship With Audrey

Although Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 13 wasn’t really about the titular couple, if you read between the lines, it hits differently.

For the second time, Georgie sided with Audrey about a work decision while Jim turned to Mandy for comfort.

Mandy didn’t really have an opinion on the changes at the tire shop, but it seems as if the battle lines are being drawn.

Georgie and Audrey are, surprisingly, on one side, and Daddy’s Girl Mandy is on the other.

This has been happening since Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 11, so could Georgie and Mandy’s differing opinions be the thing that tears them apart?

Of course, no breakup ever happens because of just one thing, so this weekly thing I have going on where I try to guess what the last straw is for these two might be an exercise in futility.

Jim Had Some Good Advice About Marriage, But Was Georgie Listening?

The last few minutes of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 13 contained an important conversation.

When all was said and done, Georgie felt bad about all the fighting Jim and Audrey were doing. He apologized for his perceived role in it and hoped they wouldn’t fight anymore.

That gave Jim the opportunity to give Georgie the best advice about marriage anyone had ever given him.

Jim: We fight, we make up. That’s what marriage is.

Considering how many fights Georgie and Mandy have had over inconsequential things, Georgie really needs to keep this advice in mind.

Maybe that’s why this show is called Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.

The titular couple also does a lot of fighting and making up.

Sadly, they will eventually decide that they can’t do this anymore, at least temporarily.

I just hope that when they do, their split for the sake of drama isn’t over something completely ridiculous.

Another Week, Another Silly Connor Plot

I love Connor, but I dislike when he’s part of a silly subplot about how he’s doing something weird.

One of my main complaints with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage continues to be the way they underuse Connor.

I have no problem with Connor being “weird.” It fits his non-neurotypical/Sheldon replacement role perfectly.

Still, it irks me that more often than not his weirdness makes him the butt of jokes. For example, in this episode he was seen recording various appliance sounds for no apparent reason.

In the end, it turned out that he had been mixing the sounds together in an attempt to turn them into a song.

He didn’t quite get there, but I loved that Mandy took the time to tell him how cool his project was.

I prefer when Connor’s weirdness actually serves the plot instead of making him weird for the sake of it.

In the last several episodes, Connor has made a lot of progress toward developing a genuine friendship with Georgie.

He even tried to take care of him when Georgie was sick in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 1 Episode 12.

Yet in this one, he was back to being strange for no real story reason and being the butt of jokes based on how weird he continues to be.

That feels like a real step backward. I know Connor can’t be the star of every episode, but turning him into a punchline isn’t cool either.

I’m mostly curious about why the show seems to have shifted into being a workplace comedy that takes place at the tire shop.
