When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 11 Calls on The Community to Save Little Jack

When Little Jack gets diagnosed with diabetes on When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 11, the town rallies to help. Our review!

The post When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 11 Calls on The Community to Save Little Jack appeared first on TV Fanatic.

The Hallmark Channel’s shows are well-known for being about family, heart, and community.

It’s one of the areas where When Calls the Heart excels.

While the last two seasons have fluctuated, When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 11 demonstrated Elizabeth’s importance to Hope Valley and how her friends rushed to help her and Little Jack.

This was an extremely emotional hour since everyone cared about Little Jack, and saving that child’s life was of the utmost importance.

While focusing on Elizabeth’s point of view was crucial, I’m glad we also saw how his illness affected others, including the children.

Keeping Historical Elements Accurate Was Critical for This Devastating Storyline

Keeping the timeline accurate for diabetes in the 1920s was essential for this storyline. The arc was compelling as Elizabeth questioned how she could have missed the symptoms.

As someone who has diabetes, it’s still easy to miss 100 years later, and probably harder back then, especially in young children who were extra hungry or tired.

I know firsthand that hunger and exhaustion are the first signs of diabetes, but they are often overlooked during our busy lives.

The insulin trial began in 1922, and I appreciated When Calls the Heart tying it to Mei’s discovery of a research article.

It played out realistically with Faith wary since they didn’t know much, but knowing they might have to take a leap of faith and pray for a miracle.

Insulin was so new back then that it hadn’t been used on young children yet, but it was their only chance. Taking insulin helps the pancreas process glucose better, which allows those with diabetes to live everyday lives.

It is such a burden for Elizabeth to try to convince a doctor to let her little boy live.

Hope Valley Rallied to Support Elizabeth and Reassure Her She Was Not Alone

“Having Faith” emphasized the best use of community and friendship.

Mike and Mei volunteered to travel to Toronto since she knew how to plead their case, while Rosemary helped Elizabeth draft a letter to the doctor.

This was how Rosemary should be used more often — as a supportive friend. She rushed to organize a meal train for Elizabeth, Nathan, and Little Jack so they wouldn’t have to worry about cooking.

She needed to stay occupied so she wouldn’t break down. While Minnie encouraged her to talk, she understood and chipped right in.

When Faith learned the hospital refused to send medicine for only one patient, but they would for a clinic of ten patients, Faith and Rosemary got to work.

Seeing Molly, Minnie, Florence, and everyone recruit patients was heartwarming, but Elizabeth convinced the doctor when she told him they had nine and could likely get more if they were success stories.

She begged him to save her little boy.

Hopefully, we’ll see how Faith and Mei begin this clinic in the When Calls the Heart Season 12 finale.

If the series is renewed, that could be an interesting arc for them because they saved Little Jack.

The Crisis Brought Elizabeth and Nathan Closer as a Family

Nathan and Elizabeth have weathered several crises since they started dating during When Calls the Heart Season 11.

When they support each other, their work is often some of their best since they’ve always had the foundation of a strong friendship.

However, they’ve never had to deal with one of their children having a life-threatening condition before, and both of them felt utterly helpless.

Nathan was used to protecting those he loved and hated but couldn’t fix this problem. In an emotional scene, Bill assures him he only has to be there for his family.

There were so many little moments of Nathan and Elizabeth reading to Jack, listening to the baseball game, or waiting with him at the infirmary that symbolized they were together.

Nathan: There is nowhere I’d rather be.

Elizabeth had been through the wringer with all that horrible news, but finally getting a miracle.

The Children’s Guilt Led to An Uplifting Experience For Jack

So many people questioned if they could have done something, especially the children. Cooper and Toby felt responsible since Little Jack ran off into the woods while playing baseball with them.

They wanted to make it up to him but were unsure how since he was too weak to play.

Despite his age, I appreciated that they considered him one of their friends, and Cooper suggested broadcasting a baseball game over Rosemary’s show instead.

That was such a sweet idea, and they got all the children involved, from Angela playing mood music to Oliver and Allie yelling the plays to Cooper and Toby.

Cooper and Toby were great announcers. They tried to explain the game so Little Jack would feel like he was in on the action.

While Elizabeth and Little Jack appreciated the gesture, Allie also felt guilty, wondering if she should have noticed something when she babysat him.

Oliver had to tell her that sometimes horrible things happen to good people, and no one can prevent it, but now they could help with the solution.

Unfortunately, he knew all too well about that. He turned out to be an optimistic, caring person, and Allie appreciated him more each day.

While they haven’t jumped from close friends to a couple yet, there were some lingering looks.

Lucas Was Left Out of Most Things Once Again

It’s disheartening that Lucas was barely involved in this storyline when he and Little Jack were so close a few years ago.

We barely saw Lucas except when he checked in with Henry, Lee, and Biil and commented that Jack mattered more than his political re-election.

It’s obvious he still cared about that little boy, and even if it would have been awkward for him to sit around with everyone else, seeing him get some updates would have been nice.

We never saw Lucas again until the church service at the end.

(Ricardo Hubbs/ Hallmark Media)

I hate that he’s become so removed from his friends, and yet he’s worked vigorously to save and improve their community.

Over to you, Hearties.

What did you enjoy about “Having Faith”? Do you think the insulin will help Jack?

Did you enjoy how Hope Valley rushed to help Elizabeth? Do you dislike how Lucas was left out again?
