7 Ways Boston Blue Could Use Other Reagans To Tie It To Blue Bloods

Danny can't be the only Reagan in Boston! We have some ideas for ways Boston Blues could use other Reagans.

Boston Blue won’t work if Danny is the only Reagan gracing our screens.

Of course, the Blue Bloods spinoff can’t keep the entire family together; otherwise, it would just be Blue Bloods 2.

0 (and equally expensive, defeating the purpose of moving to a spinoff).

Still, a procedural that Danny’s shoehorned into without any family ties would insult everything that made Blue Bloods my favorite show. Fortunately, there are several ways that Boston Blue could use other Reagans.

1. Video Chats Could Take The Place Of The Reagan Family Dinners

(CBS)

The simplest way to include various Reagans is through video chat. Yes, even Henry, who probably would be offended at the idea that because he’s in his 80s, he can’t manage it.

Boston Blue could include a scene at the end of each episode that gives us a taste of the Reagan family closeness without a full dinner scene (sorry for the bad pun.)

Danny could close out each week’s episode with a phone call to one of his family members back in New York. That way, the show would save money by only using one Reagan at a time and rotating them episodically.

This wouldn’t have worked when they were all in New York. Frank would never have allowed it, and it would have ruined the show’s close-knit family feel.

However, Danny is in a new city, so it makes sense that he’d call his family often and that they wouldn’t all be together all the time.

Additionally, we can easily imagine Danny calling the other family members on episodes where they aren’t featured.

2. Give Frank A Recurring Role As An Advisor To Both Danny And The Boston Commissioner

It would drive Danny up the wall if Frank stuck his nose into his cases from afar.

He was annoyed enough that the entire Reagan family discussed what to do about the reward Danny didn’t know had been rescinded without consulting him.

However, that’s exactly why this would be one of the best ways Boston Blue could use other Reagans.

Frank and Danny could be feeling their way through this new stage of their relationship now that Danny’s moved away, and part of that could include Frank trying to navigate the fine line between using his connections to help Danny and interfering in unwelcome ways.

It’s not unrealistic for Frank to know the Boston Commissioner of Police. He could start things off by reaching out to help Danny get his new job, which would seriously annoy Danny.

3. Jamie Or Joe’s Cases Could Take Them To Boston Occasionally

Jamie and Joe both work in departments that could sometimes work on joint cases with the Boston PD.

Joe is in Narcotics, which means that he could easily get involved with busting a drug operation that spans more than one state, while Jamie’s undercover work could also bring him to Boston.

This would be one of the best ways Boston Blue could use other Reagans, as long as they do it in a realistic way.

The guys could mix business with a family visit, either intentionally or because something happens while they’re in Boston.

That would be a neat twist on how family stories worked on the original Blue Bloods.

4. Sean Settles In Boston

Most of the ways Boston Blue could use other Reagans involve them making cameo appearances.

However, Sean is the one character who could still appear as a regular, assuming Andrew Terraciano is interested.

On Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 17, Sean revealed that he was graduating early — and that he didn’t know what he wanted to do after college.

This offers him a logical reason to be in Boston: he’s there for a job of his own or to attend graduate school.

Sean could be living on his own for the first time, which would add an interesting twist to his dynamic with Danny, especially if he believes Danny took the job with Boston PD, so he could keep an eye on Sean.

5. Henry Could Decide To Live With Danny Instead of Frank

Although Henry was mainly a supporting character on Blue Bloods, he’d sometimes have stories where he tried to help the cops in some way or got annoyed that his grandchildren (especially Jamie) saw him as a feeble old man when his mind was sharp as ever.

Thus, it wouldn’t be too farfetched for Henry to ask to move to Boston (if not invite himself to stay with Danny).

It would be a new adventure, and if Danny were reluctant because he didn’t have enough time to “look after” his grandfather, Henry would argue that he’s the one who needs to look after Danny.

Once Henry moved in, he could continue to offer Danny the advice and support that he’s so well known for.

Maybe he’d even find new love of his own once he settles in.

Now that would be fun!

6. Erin Visits Occasionally Because Jack Allegedly Has Family In The Area

It would be typical of Erin to occasionally “drop by” Danny’s because she’s in Boston visiting Jack’s family.

Danny might get suspicious about it if she never has Jack with her at any of these impromptu visits. Why is she really there, and does Jack even have family in Boston?

This would be one of the best ways for Boston Blue to use other Reagans because it would allow Erin to have a continuing storyline without being in the show full-time.

It would also add some mystery to whether she and Jack are still doing well or if there’s trouble in paradise.

7. Boston Blue Has A Special Episode When Jamie And Eddie’s Baby Is Christened

Blue Bloods teased Jamie and Eddie’s baby on the series finale, even offering a due date of June 13.

There is no way Danny would miss the christening, and that would give us some much-needed Reagan family time.

Ideally, this would feel like a crossover with Blue Bloods, though that might not be possible because of the costs.

If Danny can’t hang out with all his relatives in New York City, he should at least get some one-on-one time with Jamie, Eddie, and the baby — even if he has to attend the christening virtually.

If Boston Blue can find the budget to send Danny to New York for one episode, he could struggle to balance his family time with working on an important case in Boston or find himself in the middle of a case in New York.

That would be in keeping with Blue Bloods’ tradition of making family important without forgetting it’s a police procedural.
