Will NBC Rescue FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted From Cancellation?

Hungarian National Police - FBI: International

CBS has canceled FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, but there's a compelling argument to be made for NBC to save both. Get the details.

Now that the dust is settling on CBS canceling two-thirds of its FBI franchise, questions about whether a second life could be in the cards for FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted on another network are emerging.

More specifically, NBC.

Universal Television, owned by NBC Universal, co-produces both series, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

The biggest surprise is that no details about potential negotiations have spilled out, but perhaps CBS made the early call to end both shows to allow some time for them to close a deal elsewhere.

When CBS announced the existence of FBI: CIA, it seemed that International or Most Wanted would lose their place on the schedule.

But now that they’ve both been canceled, it’s hard not to imagine the possibility of CBS’s loss being NBC’s gain in this scenario.

Both of the canceled shows come from Dick Wolf, the prolific super producer behind current NBC hit franchises One Chicago and Law & Order.

FBI: Most Wanted and International Still Have Solid Ratings

FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted are each averaging around 6.5 million viewers this season and a 0.42 rating in the demo.

These numbers put the shows well ahead of current NBC dramas Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Brilliant Minds, The Irrational, Found, The Hunting Party, Suits LA, and Grosse Point Garden Society.

With Suits LA and Grosse Point Garden Society flatlining so spectacularly on Sundays, there’s a good chance that NBC will cancel more shows than expected.

Tuesdays could use some mileage, and taking two of the three FBIs could be a good way to shore up the network’s fall numbers.

The more likely scenario is that it will come down to just one of the shows, but this seems like a conversation that needs to happen.

CBS is entering risky waters with so many cancellations of well-watched and beloved dramas.

NCIS: Hawai’i and Blue Bloods still had stellar ratings when they were canceled untimely, indicating that the devoted fans were still invested.

There’s far more going on at CBS behind the scenes than we’re privy to, but the negative buzz surrounding unwarranted cancellations could ultimately lead to viewers abandoning the network altogether.

CBS Has Made a String of Blunders

CBS has had a chokehold on viewers who crave procedurals for decades at this point, and even with TV ratings in decline, the network remains well ahead of the game.

We already know that Blue Bloods was cut because it was so darn expensive, so we have reason to believe that a potential 15th season would have had to cull much of the cast.

Either that or it would have had a minuscule episode order, which wouldn’t be synonymous with the show we know and love.

CBS also appears to be throwing The Equalizer to the wolves after shifting the Queen Latifah show from the underperforming Watson in the 10 p.m. hour on Sundays.

The decisions over the last couple of years have been out there, to say the least.

FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted are both expected to have some form of closure, but if the conversation comes up, it would be interesting to see how they pivoted to airing on NBC.

It has to because TV networks are complaining about losing viewers, and here we have two sturdy dramas putting up numbers some shows could only dream of.
