Erin Brockovich TV Series From Grey’s Anatomy Showrunner Krista Vernoff Eyed at ABC

Grey's Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff is staying put at ABC.

She is teaming up with the real-life Erin Brokovich to bring her story to the small screen.

The potential series has scored a put-pilot commitment under the working title Rebel and would follow Brokovich over the years following the 2000 movie, which starred Julia Roberts.

Here is ABC’s official logline:

“‘Rebel’ is inspired by the life of Erin Brockovich today. Twenty years after a movie made her famous, Annie “Rebel” Rebelsky is still working as a legal consultant without a law degree.

A funny, messy, brilliant and fearless real-life super hero who cares desperately about the causes she fights for and the people she loves, when Rebel applies herself to a fight she believes in, she will win at almost any cost.”

Vernoff is on board to executive produce, and will also pen the script.

It will be a co-production between ABC Studios and Sony Pictures Television. The real-life Brockovich is on board to serve as an EP.

The movie above found Brokovich working as a paralegal on a pro bono real estate case in which she discovered that a public utility company was contaminating a small town's water supply.

After delving deeper into the conspiracy, Brokovich helped plaintiffs win $333 million in damages in one of the most prominent class-action lawsuits in history.

For Vernoff, this is the first project to come from her overall deal she signed in January.

As the showrunner of Grey's Anatomy, she helped steer the show back in the right direction following a dip in quality.

The show subsequently became ABC's number one drama. The network hopes that installing her as the showrunner of Station 19 will lead to similar results.
