NBC’s nature series The Americas has struck a chord with viewers since it premiered last month.
Nature series excel when they have visionary storytellers narrating the events.
The Americas has Tom Hanks’ engaging personality at its core, and it’s elevated the first four episodes.

With the fifth episode of the freshman season coming up this weekend on NBC, TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at what’s coming up.
The footage focuses on sharp-tailed grouse dancing to win over mates, and Tom is happy to explain how that works in great detail.

The Americas has awe-inspiring visuals that set it apart from some of the other series in the genre.
It’s clear a lot of care and consideration went into crafting the series, and all of the vital ingredients come together on-screen very well.

The Americas Has Been a Bonafide Hit for NBC
NBC describes The Americas as “a love letter to the world’s greatest supercontinent featuring never-before-seen wildlife behavior, new species, and breathtaking landscapes.”
The series was five years in the making and filmed over 180 expeditions, indicating that producers went to the ends of the earth to find the most compelling footage that could be woven together with Tom’s narration.

Each episode focuses on a different location across the Americas, and we’re about to delve into The Frozen North when Season 1 Episode 5 premieres on Sunday evening.
NBC has confirmed that the series premiere reached 7 million viewers and is the most-watched nature documentary on linear television in more than 15 years.
With so much nature-focused content available on YouTube, it’s impressive that viewers will still tune in to this kind of thing on broadcast TV, where it’s becoming notoriously difficult to keep viewers.
NBC is home to shows like Chicago Fire, Law & Order Special Victims Unit, and The Voice, so The Americas presents a change of pace.

It’s always interesting when networks go off-brand, but the continued challenges plaguing broadcast TV have led to some interesting decisions.
